Reblogged from Skeptical Cubefarm:
Today one of the founding figures of the secular humanist movement, Paul Kurtz, has died. I didn't know him, and I'd be hard-pressed to name any of his more than 800 articles published during his lifetime, but his activism and vision paved the way for many, many more in the atheist, secular humanist, and skeptical communities.
Without his work - and the work of others like him, the modern secular humanist, atheist, and skeptical movements may not have happened - or at least, they may have taken longer to flourish as they have.
RIP
