Further to my answer on the original post, here:
In nations where there is not a secular democratic government – your job as citizens, is to make your government into one and make it work for you.
In nations where it’s supposed to be a secular democratic government, but it’s been hijacked by Special/Private Interest/Secret Agenda “for Sale” or “Cave under Coercion” People – be they politicans or civil service employees operating their private empires within the halls of government – be it an actual conspiracy or just the run of the mill crappulence of Good Ole Boys Network or Mean Girls or Prejudiced People who cannot separate their private beliefs from their public or professional ethical or outright job responsibilities:
Because the government we already have, is the one that, by our actions AND by our inaction, we deserve.
So, if your government isn’t working for you – change it by every means and avenue possible.
Because as a Canadian – I went from having rights just because I was born here to not having rights because I was honest about being a lesbian to having rights again because I and others like me – worked to earn them back – one person, one couple, one court case, one person, one change at a time, until we reached critical mass and in 2003 – marriage equality become the reality in Canada.
The social resistance was over come and the law changed and the world didn’t – so people realized that there was nothing to be afraid of with gay marriage.
But, legal equality is the first step on the path to meaningful equality.
It’s not enough to have the legislation and policies in place that say we’re equal or how we are supposed to treat each other as fellow citizens, families, coworkers or customers or in service to the public or just strangers on a bus.
We have invented a lot of things to tell ourselves about the universe, about ourselves and others and how to be in and of the universe. These are false limitations that I do not share – because I am a sensualist – I live and die by what my senses tell me – I experience with my whole substantial earthy voluptuous body – I am that 6 year old girl who was ready in an instant to be Elvis Presley at family gatherings – if you ask nicely, I might even don my Aloha Beaver Jumpsuit without needing to get drunk first.
I plan to wear this outfit to the Emmy Awards WHICH I WANT TO WALK DOWN THE EMMY RED CARPET ARM IN ARM WITH KATHY GRIFFIN and MY CANADIAN LESBIAN SPOUSE – so am looking for a different jumpsuit design for the Oscars.
Any one have suggestions or drawings? Elvis Jumpsuits with Canadian Content wearable by a 300 pound lesbian – because 2012 is the year of eating healthy and exercising – something I have never before been so committed to – and as an example – on December 31, 2011 – I declared to the universe that nothing bad was allowed to enter my body anymore. On January 1, 2012 – I ate my last potato chip – three chips into a kettle bag of onion and aged cheddar – I thought that I put roadkill jerky in my mouth and I couldn’t swallow it – and I am not swallowing any more badness or bad behavior from the world.
I am not like other people who wen they Tell You How It Is – what they are saying is what is stopping them or worse – how awful their corner of the world is.
When I tell you how something is – it’s not from a place of smallness – it’s from a big big place – because I am as smart as I appear to be – but it’s not likely that I am showing you how smart I really am.
So if you are willing to be patient and listen to what I know – and if you can’t trust that I am smart – then just consider the possibility that I might be as smart as I say that I am.
Because the only thing it’s going to cost you is your time. What you do with what you allow me to contribute to you – is all down to you.
So – do you have the time to challenge me and find out what I know?
Who wants to play with me?
Free – until January 19, 2012 – my 44th birthday – my gift to the world:
It’s not enough for someone to say – yeah, I know equal under the law, but there’s equal and then there’s equality.
Sure – and as long as each of us holds back, being stingy with treating each other as equals who are equally valid and deserving of our considerations – as long as we talk at and not to each other – then nothing will change because no one is willing to change.
So our shared reality is really the story of resistance and change.
I am an irresistible force and I know how to move those allegedly immoveable objects – because I do it – every day – one person and one conversation at a time.
